True Colour auto-darkening filter
Natural colours in the light state (shade 3), a variable dark state from 8 to 12 and 0.1 ms switching. Optical class 1/1/1/1.

Your hearing protection, your choice
The Open Platform headgear leaves room over the head for full-size earmuffs with a headband, worn directly on top of the welding helmet. Use passive earmuffs, active noise-cancelling protection or communication earmuffs with music and radio – whatever your workplace requires – together with Aketek’s auto-darkening optics. Hearing protection is not included, so you can keep the model your team already uses.
Swedish True Colour optics
Liquid-crystal optics are Aketek’s speciality, built on 50 years of auto-darkening experience since Åke Hörnell’s first prototype in 1976. The filter gives a clear, natural-coloured view in the light state (shade 3) and switches to your chosen dark shade between 8 and 12 in 0.1 ms. It is rated 1/1/1/1 with class V1 angular dependence to EN ISO 16321 and blocks UV and IR radiation at all times, even in the light state.
Always on. Always ready.
There is no power button. Two sensors at eye level detect the arc the moment you strike it, and smart auto-delay adapts how quickly the filter returns to the light state to your welding rhythm. The energy-efficient electronics last up to 88,000 hours of use – around ten years of readiness. Sensitivity and shade are set with two knobs on the filter; a switch selects WELD or GRIND.

Common questions.
Are earmuffs included?
No. AUDIO is designed around the hearing protection you already use. Any full-size earmuffs with an over-the-head band fit, including active noise-cancelling models and communication headsets with radio or music.
What is different from VIEW?
The shell and the Open Platform headgear (SKU 12302). The auto-darkening filter, cover plates, sweatband, neck pad and accessories such as magnifying lenses and the heat protection plate are the same as on VIEW.
Can I grind with the helmet on?
Yes. Set the switch on the filter to GRIND and it stays in the light state (shade 3) while you grind. Select WELD again before striking an arc. GRIND mode is also the recommended setting for long-term storage, as it extends battery life.
Do I need to switch the helmet on or charge it?
No. The filter is always on and ready the moment you strike an arc. Its energy-efficient electronics are designed for up to 88,000 hours of use, so there is nothing to charge or remember.
Can I use it with a hard hat?
Yes. The hard hat adapter (SKU 78001) replaces the standard headgear and mounts the helmet on a safety helmet.
What does the warranty cover?
The auto-darkening filter has a two-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Keep the invoice and the serial number as proof of purchase. Cover plates, sweatbands, neck pads and other wear parts are consumables and are not covered.
