THOUGHTFULLY ENGINEERED

Details that make a difference.

01

TH3P filtered air

Spark arrestor, activated-carbon prefilter and P3 HEPA filter remove up to 99.995 % of airborne particles – the highest class, TH3, to EN 12941.

02

Quiet AIR unit that lasts the shift

Belt-mounted unit with True Flow airflow control, 190 or 210 l/min, 13–16 hours per charge, alarms for low airflow and low battery, and a filter indicator.

03

True Colour filter, always on

The VIEW filter: shade 3 light state, variable 8–12 dark state, 0.1 ms switching and up to 88,000 hours of battery life.

Exploded view of the AKETEK® AIR unit with filter cover, prefilters and HEPA particle filter

Clean air, all shift long

The AKETEK® AIR unit draws air through a spark arrestor, an activated-carbon prefilter and a P3 HEPA particle filter, removing up to 99.995 % of airborne particles – protection class TH3P to EN 12941. The brushless fan and True Flow control keep the airflow constant at your chosen setting, 190 or 210 l/min, and the 3300 mAh battery lasts 13–16 hours depending on the mode and the condition of the filters.

AKETEK® VIEW AIR helmet shell with face seal

Air where you need it

The hose enters the VIEW helmet at the side and a nozzle directs the filtered air towards your nose and mouth, so the airflow does not irritate your eyes. A face seal around the helmet keeps the clean air inside. The AIR shell, face seal and hose are all replaceable parts.

AKETEK® AIR fan unit with waist belt and battery charger

Worn on the lower back, felt nowhere

The AIR unit weighs 1.65 kg and sits on the lower back on a waist belt with shoulder straps that spread the weight between your shoulders and hips. It works quietly. If the airflow drops too low, an audible, visual and vibrating alarm goes off; a low battery gives an audible and visual alarm, and an indicator lights up when the filter needs changing. The battery charges with the supplied charger; a spare battery lets you work around the clock.

AKETEK® True Colour auto-darkening welding filter, front view

Swedish True Colour optics

Liquid-crystal optics are Aketek’s speciality, built on 50 years of auto-darkening experience since Åke Hörnell’s first prototype in 1976. The filter gives a clear, natural-coloured view in the light state (shade 3) and switches to your chosen dark shade between 8 and 12 in 0.1 ms. It is rated 1/1/1/1 with class V1 angular dependence to EN ISO 16321 and blocks UV and IR radiation at all times, even in the light state.

Back of the AKETEK® auto-darkening filter with the WELD/GRIND switch and the sensitivity and shade knobs

Always on. Always ready.

There is no power button. Two sensors at eye level detect the arc the moment you strike it, and smart auto-delay adapts how quickly the filter returns to the light state to your welding rhythm. The energy-efficient electronics last up to 88,000 hours of use – around ten years of readiness. Sensitivity and shade are set with two knobs on the filter; a switch selects WELD or GRIND.

THE RANGE

Which helmet is yours?

Every AKETEK® helmet shares the same True Colour filter, cover plates and accessories. The difference is the shell and what it lets you do.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions.

Which filters does the AIR unit use, and how often do I change them?

A spark arrestor (SKU 15030), an activated-carbon prefilter (SKU 80005) and a P3 HEPA particle filter (SKU 81001, 3-pack 81003). Change the prefilter regularly – as a rule of thumb, three prefilters per HEPA filter – and change the HEPA filter when the unit warns of a clogged filter. The prefilter does not replace the P3 filter.

How long does the AIR battery last?

13–16 hours on a full charge: about 16 hours on the low setting (190 l/min) and 13 hours on high (210 l/min). Runtime depends on the condition of the filters. The 3300 mAh battery (SKU 82001) is replaceable and charges with the AIR charger (SKU 82020).

Can I use the head and neck covers with the AIR helmets?

No. The AIR helmets have a face seal that keeps the filtered air inside the helmet, so the head and neck covers for VIEW, Lift-Up and AUDIO do not fit. The hard hat adapter does not fit the AIR models either.

Can I grind with the helmet on?

Yes. Set the switch on the filter to GRIND and it stays in the light state (shade 3) while you grind. Select WELD again before striking an arc. GRIND mode is also the recommended setting for long-term storage, as it extends battery life.

What does the warranty cover?

The auto-darkening filter has a two-year warranty; the AIR unit and its battery have a one-year warranty, against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Keep the invoice and the serial numbers as proof of purchase. Filters, cover plates, the face seal and other wear parts are consumables and are not covered.
